Marc Wayer reports: Town's first home win in Ryman League: Whitstable Town welcomed Leatherhead to Belmont Road in a first meeting between the two clubs in any competition. Marc Seager introduced two new signings for this Ryman Division One South clash.
Midfielder Dan Stubbs and striker John Akinde both from Ebbsfleet United have joined Town, while Gary Sayer and Jake Gess returned for Michael Adcock (work commitments) and Sam Denly (Suspended).

Marc Seager was forced into an early change when midfielder Alex Hossick suffered a dead leg and was replaced by Clint Gooding,  who was making his first appearance since September.

The Reds started at a good tempo with Akinde looking lively in attack. It took only three minutes for them two take the lead when Jon Neal fired a low shot past Paul McCarthy in the visitors goal.

It took only five minutes for Leatherhead to draw level when Billy Marshall who was excellent throughout beat Kevin Fewell after he had cut through the home defence.

Akinde and Neal continued to pose problems for Leatherhead with their work rate and strength and with Marco Perona and Stubbs linking well more goals looked on the cards.

Another enforced change had to be made when Gooding suffered a knock and was himself replaced by Tommy Martin who slotted into the midfield with ease.

As it was the half time break saw the score remain 1-1 with the home fans saying it was a good a performance they had seen this season. Akinde had to have his hand bandaged at half time after colliding with an advertising hoarding.

The second half settled down and Rob Thomas and Steven Lloyd dealt with anything that came into the box from the Leatherhead wide players.

The game exploded into life when Jake Gess and Leatherhead's Steve Sargent clashed on the left hand side of the pitch after an altercation which saw players from both sides get involved.

After talking to both players the Referee brandished two red cards, both teams played the remainder of the match with ten men.

With five minutes of the game remaining Akinde was pulled down as he was racing towards goal, the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and Neal duly converted his fifth goal of the season.

Just two minutes later the same player could have completed his hat-trick when  a through ball that found him onside he shot over the bar with only McCarthy in the home goal to beat.

With the game almost up Gary Sayer who had found himself forward collided with McCarthy who had to be stretcherd off the pitch while Sayer was given a yellow card for his efforts.

There was one last chance from a free kick for Leatherhead which Fewell saved with ease and as the whistle went for full time Whitstable Town were celebrating their first Ryman League victory at home.
