Constable nearly nicks it from Police PDF Print E-mail
Whitstable Town travelled to Imber Court home of Metropolitan Police for their first ever away game in Ryman Division One South on Tuesday night. After the opening 2-2 draw with Eastbourne Town manager Marc Seager made three changes to the starting line up...
with Micky Lane, Tommy Martin and Stuart King coming into the starting line up at the expense of Steve Marshall (Injured) and Andy Constable and Clint Gooding who were on the bench.

On a superb playing surface the home side started brightly with Kevin Fewell forced into an early save from Jon Daly. The Reds then settled down playing siome neat passing football without testing Will Packham in the home goal. One effort from Sam Denly hit the side netting although the linesman had already raised his flag for offside.

Picture: Andy Constable who netted against the police: Fewell again excelled with a save out of the top drawer from another Police attack as both teams were cancelling each other out in midfield. With the clock ticking down to half time Police substitute Phil Cramp with literally his first touch took advantage of some shoddy defending to put his side 1-0 up before the whistle was blown for half time.

The second half started with Metropolitan Police showing what an established Ryman League side they are by winning the midfield battles and testing Fewll on another couple of occasions. Whitstable battled gamely with Micky Lane putting in some telling crosses when he received the ball although Packham was once again never tested.

The Police extended their lead after 56 minutes when after a Town move broke down in midfield a home attacker was brought down in the penalty area and Mr. M.Webb had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Home striker Jon Daly duly converted the spot kick to make it 2-0. Marc Seager then replaced Right Back Rob Thomas with big striker Andy Constable to give the attack more bite.

The Police continued to look a lot stronger and dangerous on the attack with Fewell again having to make a save while Tristan Frontin missed a glorious chance when he blazed over the bar. To their credit Whitstable never gave up and were rewarded in the 88th minute when substitute Constable was through on goal and after beating Packham to the ball he rounded the keeper an finshed well to give the scoreline a closer look. In injury time a Lane cross was cleared by the home defence and the referee duly blew his whistle on proceedings.
