The Reds who were missing at least seven squad members gave a debut to young reserve teamer James Duffy who started at left back. On a blistering hot day the home side matched there higher grade opponents with the best chance falling to Sam Denly whose shot rebounded of the post. Stuart King tried a shot which went wide of Scott Chalmers-Stevens goal while at the other end Kevin Fewell saved from Rob Haworth and James Pinnock. The opening goal arrived after half an hour when from a cross from the right found its way to an unmarked Jimmy Jackson who headed firmly past Fewell to put the Gate 1-0 up. The second half saw Margate up the tempo and from some poor defending Pinnock finished superbly to put his side 2-0 up. The game then became very one sided towards the Thanet side as substitions began to make Whitstable disjointed. The third goal arrived when the referee judged Jackson Ohakam to have failed a Margate player and from the resulting spot kick Charley Side comfortably beat Fewell. Andy Constable blazed over the bar when well placed but apart from that Town didn't create to many chances during the second period. The scoring was completed right at the end when Dylan McVicar who had replaced Fewell between the posts rushed out to claim the ball, but in doing so he fouled the opposing attacker and another penalty was awrded. This time John Akinde who spent a period on loan at The Belmont last season dispatched the spot kick past the young keeper to give Margate the 4-0 win WHITSTABLE 1. Fewell 2. Thomas 3. Duffy 4.
