Mark Wyver match report, 'Dodgy Dikie' tips...Combined Counties League side Merstham were Whitstable Town's latest opponents in their build up to their first ever season in the Ryman League Division One South. The home side were missing goalkeeper Kevin Fewell who was suffering with shin splints so young Dylan McVicker came into the side. Jake Gess continued at right back in the absence of the injured Gary Sayer. It was the visitors who looked the more lively although McVicker dealt with anything that came his way. At the other end Clint Gooding failed to test Ian Chatfield in the Merstham goal. Stuart King then suffered a knock in the ribs and was replaced by recent signing Jon Neal. The goal which proved to be the only one of the contest came when a Josh Maine backpass caused McVicker all sorts of problems and after standing on the ball the visiting striker had the easy task of putting the ball into the open goal. The second half again failed to see Whitstable test the Merstham keeper although Andy Constable and Neal both had shots blocked. Micky Lane worked hard down the right hand side but this was a performance that Marc Seager would not have been impressed with. The boss missing the game to attend striker Steve Marshall's wedding.
