Marlon Button whose wonder goal won Whitstable the Kent Senior Trophy against Bearsted at Dartford’s new    ground to give Whitstable manager Marc Seager his first piece of silverware has announced he has signed for Erith & Belvedere. Seager told the website: “Marlon was part of the team that won me my first trophy as a manager

and that will always hold a special memory for me and the club. Marlon told me that the decision to leave was based purely on his promotion at work, which means he would be unable to travel to training and make the midweek games. His decision to sign for Erith & Belvedere whose ground is 10 minutes away from where he lives means he can continue to play football. He would have dearly loved to be at Whitstable playing in the Ryman League but he is an honest lad and admitted that he could not give me the commitment needed. He said some very nice things about me as his manager, all my staff and his fellow players who he rates highly. Adding that Whitstable is possibly the best club he has ever played for, and everyone from the chairman down to the guys on the gate and the fans have always treated him well. He said he will be sad to leave but can’t give the 100% commitment to play Ryman football, which is twice a week. I and all at the club wish him well.”

From Marlon Button via email to Mark Wyver..."Just to let you know that I have tonight signed for Erith & Belvedere.  This was a difficult decision for me as Whitstable is a great club and I will always have such great memories there.  It has the greatest supporters ever and I would like you to put out a special thanks to them all for me, they have been brilliant and I will truly miss them.  For the moment it is down to traveling problems and making the Tuesday night fixtures.  I could not give 100% per cent commitment to Mark and the boys for the season and I don’t like to let people down and especially the team down in any way.  Mark has been so supportive of me and I know that he fully understands my family and work commitments.
I could go on thanking loads of people at the club for there support including yourself.  I would like to thank Joe, Tony for having me at the club and wish them both all the success in the world."
