Picture: (left) chairman Tony Rouse with manager Marc Seager: PS notice how tight they are gripping the cup! A big thank you to Mr Seags, Simon and the turtle. We always knew at the start of the season that this could be the year when we finally got the championship. What a great group of players we have worked with over the past season and it is a credit to all of you ( ill also include us in this) that we have won the Kent League. On a more strategic front ( this is my business head employing over 600 people!!!!)we couldn't have moved forward without the support and dedication of all the people behind the scenes and I am confident that these people will all be mentioned at the presentaion evening. I have also received numerous messages from managers of Kent League teams who have congratulated us on our succes at being a footballing team that has actually got promoted. (THAT IS NO DISREPECT TO TEAMS WHO GOT PROMOTED PREVIOUSLY).Finally I would like the opportunity to thank the supporters ( The Oyster Boys ) and to say that your support has been fantastic and appreciated throughout the season. K I do have one question--- How come I only managed to play one game this season??? Laney, From (Mark Lane) MANY, MANY CONGRATULATIONS ON BECOMING KENT LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2006/07 - ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF YOUR SUCCESS. - HOPING FOR THE TREBLE! From: dave horwood < From: dom clark NOTE: just a reminder Football is played in ALL weathers! “Tony, may I offer my congratulations to you all at Whitstable Town, we would have like to have taken it to the last day of the season but it was not to be. We lost our nerve a little and no disrespect to Tunbridge Wells who gave their all, but then you had a dodgy spell which enabled us to close the gap. Good luck next season, the table at the end of the season never lies.” Chairman VCD Just to say thanks to Marc and Simon, it has been a pleasure following the team home and away,I appreciate the way Marc and Simon always have time to have a word with us (the fans)they really do make you feel part of the club, Marc even took time out to talk to myself and Daughters at the Final at Dartford and that really made them feel special, once again well done to everyone connected with WTFC, you have earned and deserve all the praise you receive, dont be modest you deserve it!!!! (Pedro) my memories of the belmont go back to the 1970's, and as a kid, coming to the all-stars xi match and soaking up the atmosphere. i played in numerous junior league football cup finals at the ground, and also played a few times for the reserves around my 30th birthday. these days i'm a spectator with my uncle roger, my son jack and my canon eos camera... once again WELL DONE WHITSTABLE TOWN and see you in folkestone for leg 3 of the treble....CHEERS From: nick cordes My husband Roger and I have taken a keen interest in Whitstable town since moving here 8 years ago. We are looking forward to another local derby! Regards John John Pitts Secretary Sittingbourne Football Club Tony, at last, is probably an understatement. It has been a lot of hard work away from the playing side, and for that I salute you. No doubt our paths will cross next term as I travel around the various grounds in the south. All the best, MIKE. MIKE PERFECT, Grading Inspector, The FA.
John & Kathryn Tester We have no connection with the club, other than that we spent a very pleasant 2 weeks with Peter and Debbie Budge. And feel that we know as much as most about all aspects of "The Towns achievements this season both 1st & Reserves. Good luck for next season. John & Kathryn. From: John & Kathryn Tester Tony, I'm back in the country after being all over the place with the RAF - but back in time to see Whitstable win the Kent Senior Trophy the other Sunday at Dartford (lovely ground) and then become the Kent League Champions. It has been an amazing season and one that has given us supporters so much enjoyment (especially if we live so far away). In fact, I was last wearing my Whitstable Town shirt in Afghanistan last December and actually phoned my dad for the half time and full time score!). I have kept up to date from your fantastic website, my elderly dad (Brian) visiting the ground and from the Whitstable Times, which my parents send me whereever in the World I am. Can you please pass on my congratulations to the players, your committee, staff, the supporters, and all who have help the club achieve this fantastic performance. Last season, you did kindly invite my Dad and me to a match as your guest - if that offer still stands, we would both enjoy watching one of your first games in the Rymans League. Best regards, Simon : Simon Haseltine Picture: Marcos Perona:Well done the Reds . I have been following the Town since 1961. Always a mid table side until the last few years it will be great to see them play many of the original Kent league teams of Dartford ,Dover and Sittingbourne. Well done and good luck for next season stay positive and focused and just think how well Maidstone and Ramsgate have performed in their first season...promotion for Ramsgate and Maidstone very close to it. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am so pleased for you and everyone at the club. What a long wait it has been for The Reds after so many false dawns but your triumph has been thoroughly deserved because of how much effort has been put in both on and off the pitch. My only regret is that I am not able to chronicle this wonderful season - I would have dug deeply into my well of superlatives and adjectives to salute Town! Your appointment of Seags was the pivotal moment when Town went from an average side to a terrific one and I have no doubt this success will continue in the Ryman next season..Many, many congratulations. From Nigel Munson (many years head of Sport at the Whitstable Times) Tony, congratulations on winning the Kent League and would you also pass this message on to Jo for me please. Happy Rymans days, with some mouth-watering matches coming up next season. Enjoy it to the full. From: Bill Brade. > ps Please don't reply, no time for that when you're celebrating.!!! Congratulations to everyone at the club on bringing the Kent League Title to Whitstable. My old dad supported the club from the 1930s As result, he missed the club's first major title - the Kent Amateur Cup in 1928. The next trophy came in 1980. Sadly he missed that too... because he died of cancer seven days earlier. The Belmont is a place steeped in history, traditon and so many, many memories. Thus, it is not just a football success. It is also part of the town's heritage, pride and tradition. Perhaps somewhere, my old dad is raising a glass to the Reds.... along with John Connelly and the other famous names of the past. Special thanks to Joe Brownett for resurrecting the club in the 1970s and all those who are now taking it forward into a new era. Very best wishes from everyone at the Simply Whitstable Web Site. From Dave Taylor From: Leslie J Biggs From the re-formed Canterbury City: Congratulations Tony,On behalf of all at Canterbury City FC can we congratulate you on your terrific achievement in winning the Kent Football League Premier Division. Winning the League is hard enough but to do it playing attractive football should make you all immensely proud. Morning Alan,Denise and I would like to pass on our congratulations to everyone connected with Whitstable Town F.C Since Denise and I got involved with the Kent League with Greenwich Boro we have enjoyed our relationship with your Club. You have all been a credit to our League and Im sure you will be as successful as other clubs before you going into the Rymans league. we look foreward to seeing you at the dinner and dance to speak to you personally. “Tony, please pass on my good wishes to all at the club, I have not been able to get to the Belmont as often as I would have liked this last season but next year you will see a lot more of me, I can’t wait to see the lads playing in the Ryman League. I know what it takes to win a championship and I pay full credit to Marc and everyone connected with Whitstable Town on what you have achieved. I am proud to have been part of the club” From Jason Bragg:
Since my time as a ballboy at the Belmont in the late 60s/early 70s (the days of Charlie Ridge, Bob Curtis, Sammy Plews, Cyril Simpson, the legendary Dougie Bossom and others too numerous to mention), I have followed the Red's results from wherever I have lived. How delightful that the team should have such a magnificent season shortly after my return to the area. I can't wait to see my first Ryman league match at the ground. By the way, any chance that the team will have a victory parade through the streets of Whitstable? If it's good enough for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, etc., it's good enough for the Red's! From: Nigel Wootton Dave Fairclough: Manager Canterbury City Congratulations to all the players,Management Team Officials and supporters of Whitstable Town FC in winning the League. Your club is an excellent example of what can be achieved in local fotball and your success is well deserved. I wish you all the very best for next season in the Ryman league. From: Dave Fairclough.
I had friends who moved from South East London to Whitstable, and not only did I stay with them in the summer often, but one played in the youth side (Kieran Nix) for a short time. We'd often come through the gates so we could play to a goal with nets! And the flags with the Oystermen crest were usually still flying! ps is the Rising Sun off Essex Street still a decent local? It's where my mates' Gramps used to go for a beer ....... (sorry to say Grahame The 'Riser is no more), we have a memorial match next Friday the 4th of May for Whitstable's Sports Friends Roger Wilkinson and Nick Delo, Nick was the landlord of The Rising Sun befor it made way for houses. Thanks for entertaining us with some great matches and best of luck for next season. From: Mike Finch aka Elwood Well Done From: Micky West (Mick, you always were a man of few words, after a pint a few more! ) thanks Tony I am so proud of the team this year- For the character, the fight and the team spirit. Thanks to the Marc, Simon, Laney and Turtle for this achievement that would could only dream about over the years. Thanks to all the players at the club for the performances this year, to the club who worked so hard and to the supporters for creating an excellent atmosphere at the ground. It has rewarded me for all the years I have followed the club. Thanks everyone From: Andy Short My father Alf Wood was one of your biggest supporter died yesterday (28.04.07) but got to hear all about it before he died and was so pleased. To hear his team win the league and go up was one of his greatest wishes. Sadly he will not be able to try out your new bike rack I know they were waiting for him to get better to try it. So pleased I could give him the good news. Kathy Luton Please accept our condolences on behalf of Whitstable Town FC, we are all sadden to hear of your loss at this time of celebration for the football club your father so obviously enjoyed. As a local Whitstable lad, I knew Alf from way back, like many at the club I was deeply saddened to hear the sad news. We would always share a word as he walked in with his trusty bike, stood with me at 'The Gas Works End' with his mates when I was a supporter, (still am) I, like Alf had dreams of 'our team' winning the league' it was at times a bitter pill to take as every other local club had done it in their time. Canterbury, Faversham, Ramsgate and more than once Herne Bay. Oh you can't believe how we envied them, (not to take away their moment of glory) we just wished we could have a taste. We have now and it's all the nicer for the wait and promotion as well is the icing on the cake: My fathers funeral will be on 9th May 2 o'clock at the St Alphege Church in the town centre. All friends welcome no flowers all donations to prostate cancer which is set up with Lyons funeral parlour inTony Whitstable. Kathy Luton
Well done to everyone at the club, has been a great first season for me and my two boys, jack and charlie, looking forward to next season already.
Congratulations to Marc and everybody at the club from everyone at Times Towers. It's been a pleasure to be involved with the club these past five years, in a variety of guises, and now as a Sports Editor of the Whitstable Times. Watching and writing about sport for a living has its ups and downs, but I can say hand on heart that I've enjoyed (almost*) every minute I've spent watching the Oystermen over the last few years. Watch out Ryman League....here come the Reds! From: Jon Homer. Whitstable Times * I still have nightmares about the FA Vase (I think) game away at Maidstone one Sunday afternoon a few years back.
