Sevenoaks 1 Whitstable Town 3 as Town extend lead at the top PDF Print E-mail
by Mark Wyver... After the disappointment of losing at home to VCD Athletic on Saturday, Whitstable Town travelled to Sevenoaks Town looking to get their championship challenge back on track. On a dry bumpy pitch The Reds started with Micky Lane and Marlon Button looking dangerous down the wings. It was from some tricky wing play from Lane which led to the opening goal as his cross fell to the experienced Steve Marshall who, making his100th appearance for the club, finished with aplomb to give the Reds the lead.

Town continued to dominate proceedings and after 23 minutes extended the lead when from a Lane corner big defender Jackson Ohakam nodded the ball past Jamie Williams in the home goal to make it 2-0.

The home side came back into the game in the second half and after a free kick conceded by Gary Sayer former Dartford midfielder Matt Fagan struck the resulting kick past Kevin Fewell to put the home side back in the game. Whitstable started to look a bit nervous from this moment as Sevenoaks upped their game without really extending Fewell, although Tony Atkins and Aaron Smith both went close.

The game was put to bed when Marshall superbly beat Williams from 25 yards to settle the nerves and earn the reds a priceless three points in the quest for the title.
