“The pressure is all on VCD, not Whitstable:” says Whitstable chairman Tony Rouse… PDF Print E-mail
If second placed VCD are to prise the Kent League tile away from the ‘Oystermen’ who are in pole position to win it for the first time in their long history, then VCD cannot afford to slip up. Whilst Whitstable need just a solitary point from their remaining game to be crowned champions, third placed VCD (the only side who can overtake Whitstable) must win both their games starting with a tough away fixture at Tunbridge Wells on Wednesday followed up by a visit from the leagues in-form away specialist Deal Town who are unbeaten in their last eight away fixtures to pip Town in the title race. Rouse watched Whitstable ‘s 3-1 win away against Sevenoaks. he added: “ They (VCD) have been worthy opponents in the run in and have done us twice in the last two weeks but now they are the ones to feel the heat, you can bet they were hoping we would slip up tonight but Marc (Seager) had the lads fired up and we are delighted to be going into the last game of the season needing just a point to win the league. Both clubs have given their all throughout the season and Jim Ward and Tommy Samson, both previous winner of the KL have gone on record as saying,"
‘The Kent League is one of the hardest to win as there are never any easy games’
Rouse added: “I think they have that spot on, we have waited a long time at Whitstable to be in this position, we are guaranteed a top two spot which is the highest we will have ever finished since the club was founded in 1885 but we are determined to finish on a high and win the league.”
