Whitstable beat Bearsted 1-0 in the Kent Senior Trophy final at Princes Park Dartford.

Picture: Marlon Button scored the games only goal...Whitstable Town won their first silverware under Marc Seager after they defeated Bearsted 1-0 in the Kent Senior Trophy final at Princes Park Dartford.The Reds were missing the suspended Marcos Perona and Jake Gess whilst Steve Marshall, Sam Prett and Gary Carter were all unfit for selection. It was the Kent County League side who had the first chance when Simon Broadway headed a Tom Brown corner over the top of Kevin Fewell's crossbar after just five minutes. The Reds tested Bears keeper Scott Andrews on ten minutes when from a Stuart King lay off big striker Andy Constable's shot flew straight into the grateful keepers arms. The deadlock was almost broken by the underdogs on eighteen minutes when Lee Radford beat Gary Sayer only for Fewell to save his resulting shot. The Reds didn't really create to many cances with Alex Hossick and Constable shooting wide whilst Steve Smith's deflected shot tested Fewell in the Town goal.   At the start of the second half Josh Maine headed wide from a Tommy Martin corner. On fifty five minutes Hossick saw his shot hit the post with Andrews beaten. The deadlock was finally broken on sixty seven minutes when after receiving the ball from Micky Lane former Herne Bay winger Marlon Button capped a good performance by the thirty year old as he fired a superb shot past the desperate dive of Andrews to send the Town supporters wild. The Kent League leaders showed their fitness levels during the rest of the game and manager Seager now has to rally his troops for a crucial Kent League game at Slade Green on Tuesday night.
