Not so Happy Easter for Town as Vickers score four... PDF Print E-mail
by Mark Wyver...A poor Easter weekend was compunded as Whitstable Town were beaten 4-0 at fellow title rivals VCD Athletic on Monday. For the Reds who were still smarting from their 2-0 defeat at Erith & Belvedere showed four changes from Saturdays team. After a long term injury Right Back Gary Sayer returned to the side whilst their was a recall for Josh Maine at Centre Back while Marlon Button and Andy Constable returned to the starting line up. The Reds started in determined fashion with Marlon Button looking lively down the left hand side. Andy Constable had the ball in the net early on only to be penalised for a push on VCD  keeper Chris Conneally.

The dangerous Danny Penny forced Kevin Fewell into action during the first period and Leroy Huggins was always a threat up front. Whitstable also lost defender Rob Thomas through injury to be replaced by Michael Adcock.

The deadlock was broken by the home side in the 32nd minute when Huggins beat Fewell with the finish of an expierienced striker who boasts Bromley and Tonbridge amongst his former clubs.

Six minutes later a towering header from young defender Jack Parkinson from a Penny corner gave the home side an interval lead of 2-0.

With Whitstable again lacking any real bite up front despite the efforts of Stuart King and Constable the second half didn't get any better for The Reds.

With former Town midfielder Gary Ward introduced to the fray it was the home side who extended their lead when Penny scored what must be a contender for goal of the season. His 30 yard effort leaving Fewell motionless on his line.

Town brought on Alex Hossick and John Akinde but by this time VCD with Juan Ramirez and Huggins always a threat never looked in trouble. Home keeper Conneally making an excellent save from Hossick the nearest chance of a goal back.

The game was finally put to bed when former Maidstone and Ashford striker Richard Sinden who had come on from the bench beat Fewell in the 89th minute to seal a dismal weekend for The Reds.
