From the Kent League: The destiny of the Kent
Football League Premier Division Championship took another twist on Saturday as
the leaders, Whitstable Town, were beaten for the second time in as many weeks
when they lost two nil to Erith & Belvedere at Park View Road. The match
was decided in a four minute period in the second half when Adrian Dean and
Micky Collins found the net to send the 'Oystermen' to their first League
defeat on the road. For the 'Deres', it was their seventh home success and their
second win in two days after beating Croydon on Good Friday, also two nil. With
that loss, Thamesmead Town and VCD Athletic failed to take advantage as both
were held to away draws which both saw late equalising goals from their
opponents. Thamesmead, who were playing Beckenham Town at Eden Park Avenue,
went in front through Sam Thomas on fourteen minutes which remained until a
minute from time when Byron Glasgow levelled for the home side to deprive the
second place team all three points. The same fate fell before VCD Athletic as
they met Deal Town at the Charles Sports Ground which finished two apiece.
Stuart Abbott gave the visitors a first half lead, Mark Pollard then levelled
before Leroy Huggins restored VCD's advantage but then, in the final minute, an
Aaron Robinson equaliser saw the points shared. |
