Town stay top after weekend off...With just four weeks to go in the Kent Football League Premier Division campaign, the title race took another twist on Saturday as Croydon, second at the start of the day, were beaten at home and Thamesmead Town defeated VCD Athletic to move above Croydon with a better goal difference. At Bayliss Avenue, the home side went in front after ten minutes when Pedro Knight scored, Richard Sinden levelled for VCD midway through the second period before Knight netted his second. In the penultimate minute, Sam Thomas scored Thamesmead's third to condemn VCD, who slip to fourth, to their first League defeat in six outings. Meanwhile, at Albert Road, Croydon met Greenwich Borough, who had defeated the League leaders Whitstable Town last week. 'Borough' were two nil up at the break with goals from Meshach Nugent and Harbingi Grant before Billy Warner scored for the home side shortly after the restart. These results saw Whitstable Town, the League leaders who had a day off, remain six points clear at the top with a game in hand. The matches revolving around the bottom clubs saw the biggest win of the day as Erith Town defeated Sporting Bengal Utd by seven goals to one, their biggest win of the season. They were four up at the break with goals from Sebastian Schoburgh, a brace from Scott Edwards and a Mark Tompkins effort. In the second period, Tompkins completed his hat-trick with Ashley Douglas netting the seventh. For Sporting, Forhan Uddin scored a consolation penalty and a result which leaves them seven points adrift. At the Culverden Stadium, Tunbridge Wells beat Slade Green by the odd goal in three with strikes from Joe Fuller and Dave Hassett, Frank Sawyer scored 'Green's' consolation in the last minute. Elsewhere, Hythe Town remain sixth as they came from behind to defeat Beckenham Town at home. Wade Falana scored for the visitors before Barry Crawford and Jason Brazier netted either side of the break for Hythe's tenth home success of the season. Erith & Belvedere remain seventh as they also won two one when they met Lordswood at North Dane Way. Nick Smith put the 'Deres' ahead on fifteen minutes before Ricky Freeman equalised shortly after the break, Steve White netted the winner and their seventh away success. At Winch's Field, Herne Bay slipped to eleventh as they beaten by Deal Town, again by the odd goal in three. The 'Cinque Port' side went in front through John Utterson with Aaron Firth levelling for 'Bay' six minutes later. Mark Pollard netted twenty minutes from time and their eighth win on the road. The final match saw Sevenoaks Town continue their good run as they beat Faversham Town, at Greatness Park, with goals from Aaron Smith and Tony Atkins, their fourth win in five games.
