Budge strike wins it for Reserves PDF Print E-mail
Whitstable Town 1 Thamesmead Reserves 0:  Knowing  that  a win would see the victors top of the league at the final whistle a Darren Budge goal in the 15th minute set Town on their way in a match that would see either side top of the table. The downside for Whitstable manager Ian Hossick was losing young keeper Robert French in the first half after he landed badly following a challenge in the area.  “I was pleased with the way we started, my skipper Sam Baker went on a great run took the ball from his own half and picked out Darren with a great pass, he still had it all to do though and Darren's  chipped lob over the keeper was inch perfect. It was very disappointed to loose ‘Finchy’ I do hope it just a bruised hip and nothing too serious as he looked quite unwell for a while.”

Josh Main did enough before he took over in goal as Finch’s replacement to show he is not far away from fitness for the first team, he also coped well during the second half when he was in goal. Andy Keir was solid as ever and Bertie Braidwood along with Nic Smith and Barry Robinson in midfield all had good games. Manager Hossick has a very young side and confirmed his commitment to Whitstable by saying he was definitely wanted the job for another year. “Working with theses young men and seeing the way they have progressed as the weeks have gone by, the support I have from Peter and Colin Budge and from first team manager Marc Seager, well I am enjoying it too much to stop now. I have told the lads I am staying I want them all on board next year; we all will work hard to make sure we get even better as a side.”
