VIDEO:Whitstable manger Marc Seager and his coach Simon Halsey were both still upbeat after the league leaders lost their unbeaten record losing 1-0 to Greenwich Borough by a late penalty. “There is not another team in the Kent League who could have ground out the results we have over the last 5 or 6 games with such quality players missing.” Halsey said:
With only Andy Constable the only fit striker at the club Seager called on his connections to draft in John Akinde from Gravesend and Northfleet to bolster his depleted side. Whilst Seager was making no excuses he was missing strikers Sam Prett, Steve Marshall and the leagues leading scorer Stuart King through injury along with four or five other quality players. Seager saying: “We knew that it would happen sooner or later and when you are at the top of the table, plus unbeaten, then teams do run that extra yard and try just the bit harder which is whey despite having the chances to put the game to bed we were unable to convert chances into goals. We shall be looking to go to Hythe on Tuesday for all three points to keep the pressure on the others sides in the chasing pack. Remember they can’t afford to lose another game whilst we have the luxury of the points in the bag and if we do lose another couple of matches we can still end the season on a high.” |
