Whitstable Town 1 v Faversham Town 1... Kent League.. PDF Print E-mail
After the euphoria of a penalty shoot out win over West Wickham in the Lea Ray kent Senior Trophy the previous week Whitstable Town manager Marc Seager was beset by injury and illness problems for the home game with Faversham Town. Defenders Gary Sayer(hamstring), Tom Parker and Michael Adcock(both flu) were absent along with midfielder Tommy Martin who had stitches in a leg wound after an accident at work. To make matters worse Gary Carter suffered an injury in the warm up.

Sam Rigden came in at right back for his Kent League debut whilst Marlon Button and Micky Lane who was making his first start in almost five months also came in to the side. In attack Sam Prett returned at the expense of Andy Constable.

The game started with the home side attacking from the off with Rigden and Lane putting in a couple of early crosses which defender James Holder and Wes Hammond dealt with admirably. Chances were at a premium at both ends although visiting keeper Tony Diment had to be at his best to an effort from Sam Prett.
Home supporters thought their side were going to be forced into another defensive change when Rob Thomas went down after a strong challenge from former Whitstable player Steve Aslett. However after a few minutes of treatment Thomas recovered to continue in the game.

The second half started in front of a largely subdued crowd of 254 with both sides cancelling each other out. The deadlock was broken however inh the 56th minute when after receiving the ball on the right hand side Brad Maguire cooly slotted the ball past Kevin Fewell to give the bottom half of the table side the lead.
Referee Mr Marshall the came into his own by sending manager Marc Seager and coach Simon Halsey from the dugout and from this point on it looked like one of those days for the league leaders.

With Andy Constable introduced to the fray Town looked more dangerous and hit the woodwork twice while Faversham also hit the crossbar from distance. With four minutes of injury time played Sam Prett became the hero when he netted the equalizer after good work from Constable. After celebrating his goal and a return to the side Prett was shown the red card for over celebrating with the crowd.

A point gained considering the changes enforced on Seager with the bright spots being a league debut for Sam Rigden and returns to action for Micky Lane and Sam Prett.
