Picture Town keeper Kevin Fewell: Two excellent saves from Kevin Fewell and a penalty shoot out saw Whitstable Town reach the final of the Lea-Ray Kent Senior Trophy Final. The home side were unchanged from their Kent League Cup success against Faversham Town in midweek as Southern Amateur League side West Wickham arrived at The Belmont looking to cause an upset. The game started with both sides putting in some strong challenges on a very heavy pitch which had passed a 10.30am pitch inspection. Visiting goalkeeper Mark Owlett looked very competent between the posts and was tested with numerous high balls into the box which Andy Coinstable and Stuart King failed to get on the end of.

The highlight of a fairly dull envounter came when the dangerous Marcus Elliott looked odds on to score for the supposedly underdogs only for Fewell to superbly push the ball over for a corner. On the stroke of half time Town lost defender Gary Sayer with an injury to be replaced by the versatile Michael Adcock in the back four.

After the interval both sides continued to fight for every ball and showed the quality of the fitness levels of both sides.Big striker Constable was superbly marshalled by Adam Freeman and with King not getting any clear cut opportunites the Kent League side were beginning to get frustrated.

Owlett did well to hold a deflected shot from substitute Alex Hossick while at the other end Fewell dealt with everything that was thrown at him. With the 90 minutes up referee Mr Carter blew the full time whistle and an extra thirty minutes was to be played.

Marcus Elliott conitnued to be a threat down the right hand side and Tom Parker had his hands full in keeping him quiet. West Wickham came closest in the extra time period only for Fewell to make his second excellent stop of the afternoon.

The crowd of 315 were the treated to a penalty shootout in what is always a good test of the nerves. Stuart King stepped up to take the first penalty for the Reds only to see Owlett save his effort and with West Wickham netting their first spot kick an upset was on the cards. Town man of the match Fewell had other ideas however and after saving a spot kick and with Jimmy Strouts, Andy Constable, Marcos Perona and Sam Prett succesful the score was 4-4. Tom Parker and Alex Hossick netted in the sudden death and with the visitors hitting the bar it was Marc Seager's men who made it to the final where they will play Kent County League side Bearted.
