By Mark Wyver: Picture Kevin Fewll, Towns keeper made two great saves: After some hard work from the Whitstable Town
groundstaff duriing the day, Whitstable Town's much postponed Kent League Cup
Quarter Final took place at Belmont Road. With a two legged semi final against Hythe in the
waiting both sides fought out a typical local derby in very heavy conditions
with Town right back Gary Sayer giving his usual full commitment in the
tackle.Chances were few and far between in the first half
with Jake Gess having the two best chances for the home side. With a goalless
first half on the cards it was Marc Seager's side who opened the scoring on the
stroke of half time when Andy Constable was pushed in the box. From the resulting
penalty, leading scorer Stuart King beat visiting keeper Tony Diment from the
spot.
The second half saw Marlon Button and Alex Hossick
coming on for Jake Gess and Jimmy Strouts and the game continued with Faversham
coming back into the game.
Consistent home custodian Kevin Fewell made two
crucial saves to preserve the Reds 1-0 lead.
With only five minutes of the game remaining home
midfielder captain Marcos Perona struck twice to continue Whitstable Town's hope of a
league and cup double alive. The next stage of the quest comes on Saturday when
Southern Amateur League side West Wickham visit The Belmont in the Kent Senior
Trophy semi-final.
