Sporting Bengal 1 Whitstable Town 5 .... match report from Mark Wyver PDF Print E-mail
Picture: Stuart King: Whitstable Town made the journey through the Blackwall tunnel for their league fixture with bottom of the table Sporting Bengal United at the Mile End Stadium. Town manager Marc Seager made one change with Jake Gess returning to the starting line up at the expense of Marlon Button who was relegated to the bench. After winning 7-0 in the October Kent League Cup fixture the travelling fans were expecting the league leaders to start quickly out of the blocks.
The home side failed to read the script however and took a shock lead after just two minutes.
After some neat passing movement home player Benjamin Manning beat Kevin Fewell with a clinical finish to give the home side the lead and shock the league leaders.

Whitstable never really showed why they are the Kent League leaders without ever really loooking like they would concede a second goal. On 24 minutes the equaliser arrived when a high free kick from Tommy Martin was helped in to the net by home goalkeeper Helaluz Zaman.

The game was gradually going the way of Whitstable when they finally took the lead for the first time in the match. The on form Stuart King finishing with aplomb from a tight angle.

The second half started at the same tempo, however young striker King showed his quality in the 56th minute when he unleashed a rocket shot from twenty yards which beat Zaman all ends up to give the Reds a 3-1 lead.

'A comprehensive 5-1 win without really getting out of second gear'
With the points in the bag Seager's men continued to boss the game and went further ahead in the 86th minute when the on fire King scored his 22nd goal of the season after cutting in from an acute angle,

With referee Mr Finnegan checking his watch the scoring was completed when young Jake Gess completed the scoring from close range. A comprehensive 5-1 win without really getting out of second gear.

Tommy Martin's free-kick from way out wide eludes both AC and the Bengal keeper. Would have been a great shot if only it had been in focus! 3.25 pm
