Whitstable 2 Beckenham 0: ‘Town extend unbeaten run to 19 games’ PDF Print E-mail
After the excitement of the amazing 5-4 victory at Deal on Tuesday Kent League leaders Whitstable Town welcomed Beckenham Town to The Belmont. With both Gary Sayer and Gary Carter ruled out of the side Michael Adcock came in at right back for his first start since the 1-0 win over Erith Town in November. In attack Andy Constable returned at the expense of John Akinde who was on the bench. All praise to the groundsmen for getting the game on, however on a very heavy pitch the game was never going to be one for the purist especially with the visitors putting in some strong early challenges. Forner Town defender Christian Barrett and fellow centre half Steve Mackenzie were dealing with most of the balls into the box quite comfortably.

The home side mustered a couple of good chances during the first period with Tommy Martin having a high cross well saved by Grant Hall while the best chance fell to Constable only for the big striker to head wide with only Hall to beat.

The deadlock was finally broken on 43 minutes when a superb run from Marcos Perona down the right wing saw him place the ball over Hall and into the net for the midfielders fifth goal of the seasom

The second half started with Beckenham having a shot from Wade Falana comfortably saved by Kevin Fewell which really summed up the visitors goal attemps during the game.

Influential midfielder Jimmy Strouts tested Hall from long range while Stuart King was his usual busy self without really having the opportunity to add to his impressive goals ratio.

The points were made safe in the 74th minute when Perona sent a superb ball through to Constable who stroked the ball past Hall to send the impressive crowd of 212 into raptures.

The Reds are now ten points clear at the top of the table and visit bottom of the table Sporting Bengal in their next league fixture.
