Jan 2007:
Whitstable’s manager Marc Seager, although delighted that his young
side had overcome a strong Beckenham was quick to bring the players down to
earth. Picture (right) Andy Constable: Asked if he thought his side were good enough to lift the title Seager
replied: “Sure we are pleased with the way our season is going but you will not
see me or Simon getting carried away with the results so far, ask me again at
the end of the season and I will give you the same reply as I have all season,
if we are four points clear with one game to play and it is mathematically
impossible for anyone to beat us, ask me that question again, then I might give
you a different answer”, he said with a smile.
Whitstable went ahead in the first half after
captain Marcos Perona scored in the 43rd minute with a neatly taken goal after good work
by Andy Constable. Perona return the favour in the second half when he was the
provider for Constable to score his 70th goal for the Oystermen
since he joined in 2000. “My aim is to break the 100 goals for Town, first I
need to try and beat Andy Keir’s appearance for the club, both are in my
sights.” Constable told the website.
