Deal Town 4 v Whitstable Town 5 'The Reds' win last gasp thriller PDF Print E-mail
Picture: Scorer of the first goal: Marlon Button: Match Report: On a bitterly cold evening Whitstable Town made the journey to in form Deal Town looking to extend their lead at the top of the Kent League Premier Division. Writes Mark Wyver..Two enforced changes saw Andy Constable and Marcos Perona miss the game with Jimmy Strouts and Marlon Button returning to the starting line up.  The Reds started brightly with Button causing Scott Thomas plenty of problems down the right hand side.
Town had the ball in the net after five minutes when Stuart King netted only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
On eleven minutes however they did take the lead when Button received the ball out wide and after cutting in curled a superb shot past the outstretched arms of Danny Twyman in the home goal. At this point the league leaders were in complete control with King and Button looking lively.

The home side got back into the game however when in the thirty first minute Jackson Ohakam was adjudged to have fouled a home player and from the resulting penalty Dave Bathgate sent Kevin Fewell the wrong way to level the score.

With both sides looking to attack,  there was always going to be goals and this proved so in the 41st minute when on form striker King turned his marker in the penalty box,  and shot into the net which Twyman could only push into his goal.

Visiting supporters were heading for their half time refreshments when the home side once again hit back when from a goalmouth scramble talented midfielder Aaron Robinson beat Fewell with a shot into the net. The goalscorer needing treatment for his efforts.

The second half started at a slower pace with the pitch having a big influence on the proceedings. The away side replaced injured defender Gary Sayer with Gary Carter who slotted in with ease. It was in the eighty fifth minute when the fireworks started as King once again scored a superb goal from an acute angle to put Marc Seager's side 3-2 ahead. Within a minute however Dave Bathgate had drew Deal level with his second goal of the game and what was in store beggers belief.

Deal introduced former Whitstable striker John Utterson to the fray in place of Jordan Barnett and with his first touch hit a great shot past Fewell to put his side ahead for the first time in the game.At this point The Reds looked in danger of losing that unbeaten record only for King to strike to complete his hat-trick and make the score 4-4.

From the Kick off Deal were on the attack once again and after a incident in the penalty area the linesman seemingly waved for a penalty only for Mr Carter to overrule his assistant. The ball upfield found its way to Jake Gess and his shot beat Twyman and finished in the net. This was the last kick off a great game and sparked scenes of jubilation for the Oystermen and a frustrated Deal showing their anger to the officals. A great advert for Kent League football had finally gone the way of Marc Seager's men 5-4.  (c) WTFC Mark Wyver
