Town win nine-goal ‘Roy of the Rovers’ thriller with last kick of the game: PDF Print E-mail

“If you’d laid a bet on the score to finish 5-4 after the two previous matches both ended in the same scoreline, well the odds would be fantastic” local bookie ‘DODGY DICKIE’ said after the game. With less than ninety seconds remaining Whitstable Town looked odds on to loose their unbeaten run stretching back 17 matches after ex Whitstable player John Utterson came on as a late sub scoring with his first touch to put Deal 4-3 ahead with time running out.

Then in the blink of an eye, first Stuart King scored his third of the night with barely enough time for the assembled supporters to draw breath when Jake Gess scored the winner just as the ref blew for full time.“We are a very young side” Town manager Marc Seager said: “With our two upfront one 18 the other 17 I though we showed great character to win the match. I don’t know what it is when we play Deal, both of us just seem to play ‘Roy of the Rovers’ football, jumpers for goals post, you score four we will score five, it was crazy football.” Match report to follow: look out for video interviews from Marc and two of the goal scorers Marlon Button and Stuart King and match pictures from Per Laleng
