Mark Wyver reports for WTFC: Picture; scorer of the first goal Andy Constable: Whitstable Town travelled to Lordswood looking to
keep their unbeaten Kent League record intact. The league leaders introduced new
signing from Gravesend & Northfleet John Akinde and he came into the side
for the injured Steve Marshall. Andy Constable and Jake Gess also returned to
the starting line up at the expense of Jimmy Strouts(unavailable) and Marlon
Button who dropped to the bench.
On a bumpy surface the unbeaten leaders started in
an explosive mode with Stuart King and Andy Constable both firing wide from good
positions. With Marc Seager choosing to play three forwards the Lordswood
defence were under constant pressure and they finally cracked on 32
minutes.
After receiving the ball on the right hand side the
returning Constable hit a sweet right foot shot which beat Lordswood keeper
Gavin Hopper on his near post. The goal was Constable's 11th goal of the season
and put the Oystermen 1-0 up.
The home side who included former Town player
Stuart Harrison in their line up looked lively going forward with Nick Smith
always a threat. Kevin Fewell however had a quite first half without really
being extended. HT 0-1With only two minutes played of the second half
young striker Stuart King put Whitstable further ahead when he beat Hopper from
close range. The former Herne Bay striker is now the clubs leading goalscorer
with thirteen. Home custodian Hopper who is amongst the best
keepers in the Kent League had another good game and thwarted the visiting
attackers on numerous occasions with one from King coming out of the top
drawer.
The Reds introduced Alex Hossick into the fray for
the hard working Marcos Perona as they looked to tighten things up. Lordswood
under the vocal Paul Piggott to their credit never gave up and were rewarded in
the 76th minute when Sean Hetterley beat Fewell to give the Medway based side
the hope of getting something from the game.
Despite a couple of scares the back four of Gary
Sayer, Jackson Ohakam, Rob Thomas and Tom Parker held firm and Whitstable remain
on course for the Kent League Championship. Marc Seager takes his side to Deal
on tuesday night looking to extend their lead at the top so make sure you are
there.
