Whitstable Town welcomed Tunbridge Wells to Belmont
Road for the Quarter Final tie in the Lea-Ray Kent Senior Trophy. Marc Seager
gave a full debut to Centre Half Dan Tanner and recalled Andy Constable to the
front line at the expense of Steve Marshall who was on the bench. On a pitch which held up well despite the continued
drizzle the home side soon tested debutant Wells keeper Glen Winter-Nolan
through Tommy Martin with the keeper recovering well to push the ball away for a
corner.
The home side did put the ball in the net after
Andy Constable deflected the ball in only for the linesman to raise his flag for
offside. The first half continued in a very even manner with neither keeper
really being tested.
Tunbridge Wells came out for the second half
enjoying their best spell of the game with Jimmy Carter always looking a threat
in attack.
Picture WTFC Andy Constable: It was however the home side who broke the deadlock
on 62 minutes when recalled striker Constable headed the ball past Winter-Nolan
to the delight of the home supporters. Four minutes later the tie was almost
over when Constable scored his second of the game.
The Oystermen were safely home in the 82nd minute
of the game when Jake Gess capped a competent display by the Reds by netting a
third to complete a 3-0 scoreline.
With West Wickham somewhat surprisingly defeating
Hythe 4-0 the side from the Southern Amateur League willl be the Semi Final
visitors to Belmont Road. However i urge all football supporters to get to The
Belmont for next weeks top of the table clash with Thamesmead Town Kick Off
