WTFC manager Marc Seager: Whitstable Town manager Marc Seager speaking after his young side overcame Tunbridge Wells 3-0 in the Kent Senior Trophy. “That was a very important win today, they were finalist last year and wanted to go on and win it this so we knew they were never going to be easy. Last season we faltered against VCD losing 1-0 at the same stage of the cup, we were determined to go one better and I am delighted we are in the semis. At half time I let the lads know how disappointed I was, as we were not playing at the right tempo during the fist half, I told the lads keep playing football, lift your tempo and we will be there at the finish.

I'am delighted for ‘AC’ (Andy Constable) his goals were just reward for a hard working performance, all round the lads did just what I asked of them. Kevin, (Fewell) in goal did not have one outright save to make, our defence was strong, yet even though we were not playing to our best if the ball had run for us we could have been three up at the interval. Sure they gave it a good go for 15 minutes in the second half but we kept our shape, weathered the pressure and I said to Simon (Halsey) and Mark (Lane) that we will be stronger at the finish; and so it proved. Yes there was an element of offside about ‘AC’ fist goal, he said as much himself but I always tell the lads play to the whistle and AC did the right thing by keeping going and putting the ball in the back of the net.”

Asked about the opponents in the semi final, West Wickam Seager said: “We know nothing about them, but we will show them the same respect as we did Margate when we played them in the FA cup, the same as we do every side we play, we take no-one for granted. I shall watch them before we play them but the mere fact they beat Herne Bay the Hythe says it all, they must be  a good side as you need to be on your game against both the Bay and Hythe or you will be on the losing side. They conceded one against Bay and beat Hythe 4-0 so they will get our outmost respect, but we shall put that game away in the locker and concentrate on the next match away at Greenwich in the league on Tuesday night, then Thamesmead on Saturday at the Belmont, both games are important and we shall be doing our utmost to take maximum points from both games.

If I was honest I would say that why we dropped off the pace last year, losing our way over the last month or so of the season was down to the interruptions in our pre-season training. This year I had questions asked about the pressure I put on the lads prior to the start of the league games but I felt we lacked a bit of fitness last season, not just me but others around the club, and I wanted the lads to take on board that the game is over 90 minuets, not just play well for 70 or so as that’s when we were being undone. Now we have a extra resilience about us and even if the game today had gone to extra time on a heavy pitch I’d have still fancied us to get a result that’s the difference between last season and this.”
