Town 3 Tunbridge Wells 0: Town beat
last year’s finalist at the Belmont. In the quarter final of the Lea-Ray Kent
Senior Trophy, at the Belmont Road ground. Last years losing finalists,
Tunbridge Wells faltered at the quarterfinal’s hurdle as Whitstable came out
on top 3-0 winners in a hard fought contest. After a fairly even first half
which Town shaded on outright chances the visitors came out strongest early in
the second half and enjoyed a good 15 minute spell before the home side moved
up a gear before settling the match with goals from Andy Constable (2) and Jake
Gess to earn Whitstable a home semi-final tie against West Wickam, currently third in the
SAL Division 1. MORE...
There
was perhaps an element of offside about Constable’s first goal; the big striker
saying after the game: “When the ball came to me I had half an eye on the linesman
but just wanted see the ball hit the back of the net, when his flag stayed down
I was delighted. The second one, well Stuart King put that on a plate, it was a
wonderful ball, I just helped it on it’s way, mind I was annoyed at the end
because I missed a chance for my third, but hit it too hard.”
