It was the visitors who started the game the brighter with Marshall seeing his effort from a Marlon Button corner go narrowly wide.

Stuart King rounds the keeper @ 8.54 pm but scuffs his shot

The home side responded when former VCD man Richard Dimmock fired over the bar minutes later while Kevin Fewell saved comfortably from Bay centre half Gary Cook.Veteran former Ramsgate player Nigel Pointon was always looking a threat to the visitors but the Whitstable back four were equal to everything thrown at them.

With this bruising local derby well handled by referee Mr Knight approaching half time Stuart King lobbed the ball over Jack Delo's goal after being put through on goal by Tommy Martin.

The second half began with both defences holding firm although King did get round Delo only for Cook to slide in with a superb tackle and avert the danger.

Both sides had long range efforts comfortably dealt with by two of the best keepers in the Kent League and chances were at a premium with plenty of niggly fouls taking place.

With most people in the ground expecting a stalemate the ball fell to veteran striker Steve Marshall and he sent the ball rocketing into the back of Delo's net and the celebrations began as Marc Seager's side went top of the table.
