DIVISION REVIEW from the Kent League After last week's defeat to Slade Green,
Thamesmead Town, the League leaders, suffered their second consecutive defeat
as they were beaten on Saturday by VCD Athletic at Oakwood, the score four two.Whitstable Town are now level on points with Thamesmead at the top, with
three games in hand
The home side were three nil up at half time with a brace from Richard Sinden
and a Danny Penney strike before Ross Cable netted for the visitors ten minutes
into the restart. Leroy Huggins then restored the three goal advantage only for
Ross Cable to next his second a few minutes later in front of the day's best
attendance, 226. The result saw VCD Athletic move above Croydon into fourth
place. Whitstable Town are now level on points with Thamesmead at the top, with
three games in hand, after their three one win at lowly Tunbridge Wells to
remain unbeaten. Adrian Hatcher netted a first half penalty for the home side
before the 'Oystermen' took control in the second period with a brace from
Stuart King and another from Marlon Button, their third consecutive League
success. At Reachfields, the fastest goal of the season was seen as Hythe
Town's Stuart Taylor netted after just forty three seconds in their match with
Deal Town. The visitors were quick to respond when Aaron Robinson scored on
eleven before second half goals from Mike Smissen, twice, and Lee Winfield
completed a four one win for the home side. In the Premier Division Cup, Herne
Bay have qualified for the Quarter Finals as Group A winners when they defeated
Slade Green three nil at Winch's Field. Sam Denly and Dave Soutan netted in the
first half with Gary Cook scoring the third for their fourth consecutive win in
the competition.
