On a quiet day for the Kent League, Deal travel to nearby Hythe for their return derby fixture. Both sides will fancy a result but recent form would favour the Reds who had an impressive win at VCD in the PDC last Thursday. Derbies are notoriously difficult to predict not helped by Deal showing signs of a return to form unluckily losing at Croydon last weekend to two goals in the dying minutes. A one all draw at Deal in August, Hythe should go one better and grab all three points this time. The only other scheduled KL match is at VCD Athletic who entertain the league leaders Thamesmead Town. That's 1st v 5th, a difference of four league places and a massive nine points, a deficit which Vickers will be hoping to diminish with home advantage. The bad news for them is that Mead will be stinging from the defeat by Slade Green at Bayliss last weekend and will need little motivation for this 'six pointer'. Both sides then have lost their last matches, a hiccup or a mid-term wobble? We're about to find out, I think Mead will cool Vickers fire with a tight one-nil away win. In the never ending saga that is Group A in the Premier Division Cup, Slade Green travel to Herne Bay on Saturday. Originally scheduled for mid January both sides have taken the initiative to rearrange the game to an otherwise quiet weekend. Bay won 1-0 at the Small Glen in November and a similar result would move them second in the mini league a point ahead of Vickers with one game each to play, VCD at Slade Green and Bay at home to Lordswood. Both Green and Lordswood have already 'pooped past the pot' so's to speak! Hythe have played out their fixtures and posted sixteen points which can just be pipped by both of the other two sides with a following wind. Whitstable Town Reserve's league match at Cray has been postponed and they are now scheduled, dependant on the weather of course, to play a 1st/2nd Division Cup match at the Belmont. If you can't make the trip to Tunbridge Wells do pop along and support the Ressies, tea hut and bar open as usual. And finally may I take this opportunity of wishing all of our readers and those Oysterboys who I don't get to see at the game on Saturday a very Merry Christmas. Hopefully I'll see you at Winch's Field on the 27th. Wherever you watch your football, enjoy it to the full! Come on you Reds! Peter Albin 19/12/06 |
