Maidstone Reserves 0 WTFC 4 PDF Print E-mail

ImageWhitstable Town Reserves gained their first win of the season after a draw and an opening day defeat. Town were dominant from the start, away at Maidstone and carved out a good three opportunities to take the lead. There was a debut in midfield for Alex Hossick and he slotted in well to the side almost helping to break the deadlock with a neat pass for Andy Martin but his shot was well saved.

ImageEx Town boss Matt Toms was playing for Maidstoneand he was kept well at bay by Marc Seagers new signing Terry Ratchford for the whole 90 minutes. Ratchford looked a different class and young Sam Baker grew in confidence playing alongside him.

Town took the lead from Darren Bridges floated cross which was knocked down by Ratchford for Andy Martin to poke home. Bridges was tormenting the Maidstone full back and was a constant threat. Hossick battled his way through to lay in Darren Budge down the left and his cross was just cut out before Martin could finish. Closest Maidstone came was a curling Matt Toms shot which went just wide. Town went in 1-0 up at half time knowing it should have been more.

Maidstone right off when young James Duffy played a super ball over the top which Hossick ran onto and drilled his shot low and hard into the net.

After a half time team talk from Manager Simon Kay demanding more of the same but to put pressure on them all over the pitch and to take the chances to finish Maidstone off. Exactly what was asked the players went out and produced. Captain Nick Smith scored the second when a corner fell to him on the edge of the box and he lobbed his shot over the keeper and into the top corner. The third goal was a superb goal as substitute Ian Hossick played a brilliant defence splitting pass for Darren Budge and he crossed for Andy Martin to score his second and make it his 4th goal in 3 games this season.
