‘Greens’ stunned: last gasp winner moves Town into 2nd: managers reaction PDF Print E-mail
Whitstable Town moved in to second place behind leaders Thamesmead after a dramatic injury time winner against Slade Green. Whitstable were rocked back on their heels after visitors scored with a goal almost straight from the kick off. The home side were off their game for long periods and left it until the second half to equalise through Stuart King. They were then reduced to ten men with seconds of normal time remaining; Josh Maine dismissed after receiving a second yellow card. Steve Marshall (picture) scoring the winner for Whitstable in a goalmouth melee with the last kick of the game deep into extra time. Whitstable manager Marc Seager saying:

'We totally dominated the game'
"I thought we totally dominated the game Kevin, (Fewell) our keeper had one shot all game. It’s a credit to the lads that we came through today, Slade Green scored after about 90 seconds and from then on they had ten men behind the ball. But we never gave up, just kept the belief that we could get something out of the game and the longer it went on you could see we were well in it.

"We never sat back"
Jimmy Strouts and Stuart King  (picture) came on with about 30 minutes remaining, I thought they both did very well. Stuart took his goal in some style and we settled defensively. I was very pleased that we never sat back after scoring the equalizer, you could tell that the lads had the bit between their teeth and I though we deserved the winner. Steve Marshall did what he does best; he was in the right place at the right time to slot home the winner with just seconds to go."

"The referee was excellent today"
"I must say the referee was excellent today and I went up after the game and told him as much. Slade Green kept playing for time which in a way is understandable but each time they did, he added some extra on. I thought the ref was spot on, not just because we won, but that's the way a ref should handle the game. To have a player sent off and still say the Ref had a good game tells you how much I rated his performance. Today’s win was very important for the club, Thamesmead won to stay top as did Greenwich who are now third but with VCD not playing today we are sitting 2nd in the league still with games in hand over the rest."
