GAME ON! Referee’s 9-30 pitch inspection declares pitch fit to play

New signings Jimmy Strouts and Dan Tanner are both available for selection for today’s Kent Premier League games against Slade Green at the Belmont. Local referee Mike Potts declared the Belmont fit for play after sterling work by groundsman Bruce Smith who was still working in the dark last night to ensure the game went ahead as scheduled for 3pm KO. Smith saying: “At 9am on Friday morning the pitch area down by the dugout was like a mini lake, the water stretched across a quarter of the pitch and was lapping at the doors of both changing rooms. I discovered that part of the pitch drainage system was blocked, thankfully I was able to clear this and the water level started dropping at once. The amount of rain yesterday, (Friday) when non was forecast put the game in doubt, thankfully the wind must has got up in the night and apart from an area along the lower touchline the pitch was just about playable. After forking the touchline to ensure it was safe for the linesman, Mr Potts gave the pitch the thumbs up. Marc, (Seager the manager) will be delighted that we will be playing today, the last thing he wanted was us the not to play this weekend and be further games in hand at this stage of the season.”
Interestingly if Whitstable are able to complete their next four matches after today, they will by the 1st week in January have played half as many games as they have at present since the opening day of the season. At present ten games played up until the morning of the 9th of December, if the weather holds Whitstable will have played well into double figures by the end of the first week in January.
