Picture: Marcus Perona: Whitstable Town 2 Dartford 1: Friendly game: Sat 10th Sept 2005: "we should have scored six or seven" says Seager...Whitstable?s were without skipper Andy Keir (unwell) and keeper Mark Brown who has a slight strain, Mark Lane Town?s goal keeping coach filled in between the sticks as Whitstable comfortable beat Dartford with Whitstable manager Marc Seager leaving himself on the bench. ?The score does not tell how much we bossed the game? said manager Seager after the game,? it?s no exaggeration to say we could have had another five or six in the second half alone, in the first, Andy Constable hit the crossbar and Aaron Knight will be having dreams about the header he missed. If I am upset by anything it?s that we did not finish them off, I know it was only a friendly and both sides were not at full strength but I was well pleased with the chance we created, just not happy with the finale touch.?

andy_Harry_attack (98k image)Despite the home side having more of the game the visitors were first on the score sheet, the nippy ?J.C? scored after Lane and his defence half cleared a ball slotted into Whitstable?s area, Dartford?s player first to the ball in a scramble to put them one goal ahead in the 20th minute. Two minutes earlier Stuart Harrison and Andy Constable had linked well, Constable?s fierce volley struck the crossbar with the keeper beaten. Just after the visitors scored Harrison was involved again this time some good build up play found Marcus Perona at the far post, the young midfielder finishing well from the edge of the area to level things up at 1-1. Minutes later Aaron Knight should have headed home after a great cross from Gary Sayer picked him out; his header was just over the bar. Whitstable added a second after good play down the left found Sam Prett with space, he drew the keeper and then lofted the ball into the far corner of Dartford?s net almost on the stroke of half time.

Half Time: Whitstable Town 2 Dartford 1
In a second half almost totally dominated by the home side; chances went begging for Whitstable throughout the second half, Harrison, Prett, Knight and Contestable all squandered chances. Whitstable played the ball out of defence with some style, looking comfortable form defence thought to the front, Lane organising his back four well.
Rob Thomas with Michael Adcock slotting alongside as the two centre backs and with Perona buzzing in midfield and chances up front, Whitstable looked good for long periods. Steve Marshall replaced Prett and immediately had a cast iron chance to score, the young Dartford keeper saving well. Minutes later Marshall was one on one with the young keeper but lost out as he dwelt too long before shooting. As the clock ticked down the visitor rallied a little with a couple of late corners but Whitstable held firm. There was still time for a couple of good chances to add to their tally as Town ran out comfortable 2-1 winners
