tackle_2.jpgQuality Street; that’s Town..'Town are quality’ says Marc Seager Whitstable Town manager who was fulsome in his praise after his side coasted into a three-nil half time lead against Greenwich Borough in the Kent Senior Trophy. Seager replied when asked if he was surprised that his young side were going into December unbeaten domestically, only losing twice in all matches this season, one in the FA Vase to Oakwood and the FA Cup to Margate.

“I have four quality strikers at the club, Steve Marshall, Sam Prett, who was on fire today Stuart King and Andy Constable. Any one of them would walk straight into any Kent League side; the good thing is that we score goals from all over the park. Today young Jake Gess notched his eighth goal of the season; out of I believe 55 goals in league and cup we have scored so far this season.” You had a great 45 minutes today; you must have been very pleased. “I have to say that today the first 45 minutes was some of the best football we have played, it seemed as if every time we attacked their goal, we were going to score. It was a great first half, I was only disappointed that we never got anywhere near the level of the first half, in the second. At half time in the dressing room for the first time I really didn’t know what to say.” You must be disappointed that they never kept up the same pace as the first half?“Look you must remember we are only Kent League players, we do not train every day, get paid bundles of money, to maintain that level and tempo of performance throughout 90 minutes, well that would be wonderful, but I am a realist, what we saw today will do for me. It’s hard when you are so on top and three nil ahead, no disrespect to Greenwich who just could not live with us in the first half it could have been five or six nil by the break, they did not have a shot. Second half, yes we took our foot of the pedal and fair play to the ‘Boro’ they never gave up and after our keeper Kevin Fewell went off after a collision they got it back to 3-2. But I have to say I never felt worried that we would throw it away. But, I would have rather that we had played great football and come in at one-nil as it keeps everyone on their toes, they then go out with the right mind-set. We lacked the cutting edge of the first half; one or two must have had their eyes on next weeks league game against VCD. That will be a massive game for us.” WTFC website (c)
