Whitstable Town play Greenwich Borough on Saturday at the Belmont Road ground in a Lea-Ray Kent Senior Trophy second round match. The two sides have yet to meet in the league but the two group games in the Kent League Premier Division Cup resulted in two score draws, 1-1 at Harrow Meadow and a six goal thriller here. Borough had a bye into this round while Town won through 4-5 at Deal Town after extra time in the first round. This contest has excitement written all over it, both sides are in good league form and goals are surely guaranteed. Three other all Kent League fixtures in the KST as Slade Green travel to Thamesmead Town, Sevenoaks play at Lordswood and Hythe Town play at Erith Town. As anyone who reads this column regularly will know my cup predictions are usually rubbish, a fascinating aspect of the game that either side can win away from league pressure. So here goes! Thamesmead should win at home, they usually do at Bayliss Avenue, no matter who they play, Green will be happy to be away from league action but I don't think they'll have enough in their locker. Oaks are a good side this term and should win, Lords played some good football last weekend and won't make it easy pushing them into extra time. Hythe are a strong cup side and will stroll through at the Erith Sports Stadium, assuming the Dockers play like they do in the league. (Gulp!) If that was dangerous, predicting the next four is suicide as they involve four Kent County Premier sides and a Southern Amateur League team. The Southern Amateur leaguers, West Wickham, host Herne Bay. Currently mid-table with ten points from six games the home side obviously aren't in sparkling form. This is also true of Herne Bay, though the senior side should breeze through (I think!). The game kicks off at 1.30 if you read the Bay website or 1.45 if you read the KL one, best get there early. There's an all Kent County League affair at Crockenhill who entertain Bearsted, on league form Bearsted (4th) should walk all over the opposition who are in last place in the league. 'So how did they produce a nil-nil draw on the 4th November?' I hear you ask…. don't you just love this game? Beckenham Town are host to Milton Athletic and Tunbridge Wells are at home to Hollands and Blair. Milton have won just two in the league from eleven starts and ought to be easy pickings for Becks and Wells have shown enough in cup competition this season to win through this round. This last fixture will produce the opposition for the winners at the Belmont. Back on firmer ground VCD travel to Croydon and Deal Town to Faversham in the Kent League. Vickers are back in terrific form, which is scary when you see they maintained second place through a rough patch, and will cause Croydon plenty of problem's. Ratchford, who played at WTFC last season, is on form and has been on the scoresheet regularly of late, one to watch. Croydon have been growing in confidence and will put up a strong defence although likely to narrowly miss out on the points. Deal and Faversham are both looking for a good result to 'steady the ship'. Their first league encounter, Deal will be seeking retribution for the double defeat in the PDC competition. Has a draw written all over it! Followers of the WTFC Reserves travel to Maidstone for a division one fixture. Wherever you watch your football, enjoy it to the full! This web page will self-detruct in ten seconds….9….8…..7…. Come on you Reds! Peter Albin 22/11/06 |
