Ten men Town worth the point...Whitstable Town 1 v Lordswood 1:KL Premier Div Sat 18th November: Whitstable Town welcomed Lordswood to Belmont Road in a Kent League Premier Division Fixture showing two changes from the side that beat Erith Town the previous week.Josh Maine returned in place of Michael Adcock who failed a late fitness test while Andy Constable replaced Sam Prett in the front line.

The game started at a quick pace with some crunching tackles going in.Whitstable Keeper Kevin Fewell and his opposite number Gavin Hopper were both equal to everything that came their way.Whitstable's best chance during the opening period came from a Marcos Perona corner kick which visiting keeper Hopper failed to gather only for Steve Marshall to see his effort hit the bar.
With an even contest ensuing the main talking point at half time was the booking for Andy Constable who was shown a yellow card by referee Mr Welsh for a challenge on Hopper after a high cross from Gary Sayer.
Visiting striker Mike McKenna whose on loan from Gravesend & Northfleet tested Fewell who again had a sound game behind the back four.

The second half started well for Town with Alex Hossick shooting over the bar after a good move involving recent signing Tommy Martin and Jake Gess. The game continued to flow before Constable went up for a corner only for the big striker to punch the ball into the back of the net and as the handball was intentional a second yellow card was shown and Constable made the walk off to the changing room,  to leave the Reds down to ten men for the second week running.

Lordswood took advantage of this,  and took the lead in the 75th minute through striker McKenna who beat Fewell from close in.Town manager Marc Seager introduced Marlon Button and Sam Prett to the fray shortly after the goal and it was Button who started to get Whitstable looking like they may get an equalizer,  with some good wing play on the right.

Another talking point for the crowd of 174 was when Hopper handled the ball outside the area only for the referee to brandish a yellow card. With the clock ticking down it was left to midfielder Hossick to fire a superb equalizer after a great move down the right hand side.

An entertaining game saw Whitstable gain a valuable point after going down to ten men and then conceding a goal. The Championship challenge continues while the club will be concentrating on the Kent Senior Trophy next week at home to Greenwich Borough.

Whitstable (1) v Lordswood (1) - 18/11/06 (10) - Despite going down to 10 men (for the second week running) and then a goal down, Whitstable pull one back to level the game at 1-1. Manager Seagers was "banished to the stands" by the ref. (another great picture by Per Laleng, see more of his pictures) http://www.theimagefile.com/web/perlaleng

Marc Seager WTFC manager: speaking after WTFC verse Lordswood: “Second week running we have been down to ten men, but to take four points out of six when we need to dig deep into our resources and showed great courage to get something out of the game. One of my philosophies is that I believe the mark of a good side is that if they can’t get all three points, then they don’t get beat."
