Simon Halsey, )left in picture) Simon Halsey WTFC coach was speaking after the 1-1 draw against Lordswood at the Belmont, Alex Hossick scoring for Town after striker Andy Constable was sent off for his second yellow card. “To go down to ten men, then a goal down, but to still have enough about us to dominate the second half shows the mental toughness we have about the whole side.” Said Halsey.
Asked if he was disappointed with Andy Constable’s dismissal, Halsey added. “ Andy has apologised to his team-mates and to Marc and myself, he knows that he let the team down, not least getting sent off when we were in control of the game and at a time when you could sense that there was only going to be one winner, Whitstable. The first half was fairly even, I think both sides cancelled each other out, but the second was different story. We passed the ball about and looked to be on a role then Andy had a rush of blood getting sent off going up for the ball at a corner to palm it into the net after his first half yellow card was silly, he knows he has let us down, but Andy is a battler and this will not effect him. After going a goal down we showed such mental strength to keep the un-beaten run going, just disappointing that we dropped points, but I was pleased for Marlon (Button) when he and Sam (Prett) went on they gave us a different option and our goal was a great move from back to front, with a first class finish”
