Spoil second chance for Town? Lords would!

An opportunity on Saturday for Whitstable Town to take advantage of one of their games in hand over VCD Athletic who are playing in an FA Vase tie. Lordswood are the visitors to the Belmont Road ground and they won't believe their luck with the fixtures calendar, having to play the top three sides 'on the bounce' in the league, Vickers beat them on October 21st and Thamesmead last weekend. Lords had just got their first away win prior to the Vickers game beating Erith & Belvedere by one in a seven goal mêlée. Scoring goals has not been their problem averaging nearly two per match with goals from a variety of players. Tricky opposition for Town and every player will need to be alive to the threat from all over the field. The pressure will definitely be on the Oystermen to get a result and the reward of second spot in the table, assured with a win, should provide the motivation.

Check your diaries now, with Whitstable in KST cup action next week while Vickers travel to Croydon in the league things should be nicely set up for our league meeting at Oakwood on Saturday the 2nd of December.... (there's more)

Another tough fixture for Faversham Town who travel to Thamesmead Town, four wins and a draw for Mead at Bayliss Avenue to date. Just proving what a hard task faces the Lilywhites Mead only lost once at home in the whole of last season, that was to Erith & Belvedere 2-3. Hard to envisage any result apart from a home win, although Faversham have only lost once in seven away games in the league they will really have to raise their game to avoid more disappointment.

Greenwich Borough have an opportunity to capitalise on their game in hand over Hythe Town when they travel to Erith Town. Currently second from bottom the Dockers will be hard pressed to win, even with home advantage. Borough have won an impressive three times and drawn three times in six away fixtures so far this campaign one of the best records in the league and one reason they are in equal fourth place on points looking to be their on their own.

Slade Green trot around the south circular to Beckenham Town for a mid-table contest. Incredibly although Green have only lost three in ten games they only have nine points, six draws being the highest collection of solitary points in the Kent League. Unsurprisingly they have a low goal difference (-1) which contrasts with Becks plus twelve. The bad news for Becks is, that it is only plus twelve when the 'goals for' column shows 35, the best in the league. Vulnerability at the back has proved their undoing this term with only 17 points from a possible 42. Has 'draw' written all over this one.

Poor travelling support won't help boost Deal Town's dwindling gate as they entertain Sporting Bengal United. Sporting travel across London and Kent with a good chance of taking three points all eighty-two miles back home. Struggling for consistancy, Deal have been vulnerable at home with a W1 D3 L2 record. A win for the Bengalis will put them ahead of Deal in the table, if it's motivation either side needs then there it is!

Saturday is also an FA Vase match day (2nd round) and six Kent clubs are looking to reach the last 64 in this national competition. At least one Kent League side is sure to progress as Tunbridge Wells travel to VCD who made it to the sixth round last season. Wells have been a side transformed in cup competition in stark contrast to their league form, recording their first KL win of the season at Slade Green last weekend. Should be a great match with Wells relishing the underdog's tag.

Sussex County Division One provides the opposition for Hythe Town, who travel to Hailsham Town, Sevenoaks Town, away at Three Bridges and Croydon who are at home versus Sidley United. Again teams appear to relish the cup competition when their league form appears indifferent with Hailsham in sixth, Three Bridges in eleventh and Sidley a lowly fourteenth. All three of our league sides have very good chances of progressing.

An escape from league pressures will also apply to Erith and Belvedere who are drawn away at Combined Counties Premier outfit Chessington and Hook United. Both sides are seven from bottom in their respective leagues and it should be a finely balanced encounter. E&B, upbeat under new management, have a great chance of making it into the hat. In the league the Deres won away last weekend at Sporting while Chessington lost at home to Bedfont Green, should be an indicator of more Kent League good news.

Incredibly Herne Bay don't have a game…. Again! That's got to hurt on a mid-season Saturday.

The Whitstable Town Reserves are at Ramsgate in a Kent Intermediate Cup tie, second round.

Wherever you watch your football, enjoy it to the full!

Come on you Reds!                                                                                             Peter Albin
