Midweek football

Whitstable Town play at Croydon tomorrow evening (Wednesday) in group C of the Premier Division Cup. The Trams currently head the mini table with a win and a draw from three games, Whitstable are in second spot with the same results from just two fixtures. This game marks half way in the round robin for Whitstable and there are two further matches just next week on Tuesday and Saturday (24th & 28th), home v Greenwich Borough and away at Sporting Bengal United. This will be the first time Town have visited Croydon's ground since they joined the Kent League the scheduled league fixture not being until March. Their average league gate to date is 71.                                                                                             Tonight, Tuesday 17th, there are some Kent Football League Premier matches going on, the biggest of which is at Hythe Town who entertain Faversham Town. Faversham can go top of the league with a win while Hythe could move up to fourth. Should be a close encounter between two of the better sides in this year's league. However, Hythe will need to be switched on to beat a very confident Town side. Should the Lilywhites win Whitstable will be one point behind with three games in hand.

The next match in terms of importance is at Greenwich Borough who are visited by Sevenoaks Town, Borough could move up to third with a win. Sevenoaks lost at Mead last weekend while Boro' won at Deal, results that would indicate three more points for Greenwich.

Two mid table games are also taking place, Deal Town v Herne Bay and Erith & Belvedere against Lordswood, on current form I think the visitors will have the better chances of winning in both. A loss for any of the four would almost be a kiss of death for their season with around a third of the fixtures played.

There are also two Kent League games tomorrow night, Slade Green at Sporting Bengal and Thamesmead Town at Tunbridge Wells. Mead will go top with a victory, two ahead of Whitstable but having played three more, and I can't imagine poor old Wells stopping it happen. Two draws in eight games is very weak by their own standards. I think Sporting will pick up their second league win against Green who haven't started well this campaign, Bengal had a good win mid-week last week beating Croydon in the PDC competition.

One more Premier game, on Thursday evening (19th) Erith Town visit Oakwood to play VCD Athletic, a good win may reward Vickers with a second spot (dependent on the other mid week results) which is quite likely with the Dockers only showing one win in nine attempts to date.

Wherever you watch your football, enjoy it to the full!

Come on you Reds! Peter Albin        17/10/06
