Town flair undoes ?Boro?
Greenwich Borough 1 Whitstable 1:   Group C KPL CUP
?You can see why the lads like playing with Harry, ? Whitstable Manager Marc Seager said after his side drew 1-1 in their Group Cup to set them joint top of the table after two games. ?You will not see a better pass than the one which Harry played Marcos in for our goal, it was all of thirty yards, the ball was just inches of the ground straight into the stride of Marcos, mind he still finished well but he would have been disappointed with himself to have missed it after Harry showed such vision.?  

Stuart Harrison?s pass, for Town?s gaol was just deserts for a battling performance by a much changed side from the one that played against Deal on Saturday. Seager resting many of his young players who have been playing twice a week recently, he himself played in midfield with Perona alongside, up front Sam Prett partnered Andy Constable. Although Town were at times second best in the first half to a speedy 'Boro' side due largely to their effervescent trio of Dave Hassett, who scored the home sides goal in the 18th minute and Ben Yiadom;  both players worked the flanks at pace. Town coped.

Hassett?s goal after the home side worked the ball out wide on Towns right, Hassett wriggled his way past two Town defenders to beat Kevin Fewell with a sweet strike. In reply Whitstable had more than enough chances to score, Greenwich keeper Michael Holder however was on top of his game, he denied Constable, Prett and a Marc Seager strike from distance. Saving his best for a gloved tip round the post after Marlon Button had undone Greenwich?s defence with some direct running down the left. Darren Budge worked hard on the right, with  Button overlapping on the left Town looked sharp but it was Constable and Prett up front who both caught the eye. Prett with some great runs off the shoulder of 'Boro' defenders, Constable; who was all hustle and bustle stood out on as night when all of Town?s players worked hard.

If the first half was just shaded by the home side, albeit by the one goal, it was marginally the difference between the two sides, the second half was a much more one sided affair with the visitors almost laying siege to Greenwich keeper Holden's goal.

Harrison had replaced Budge at the interval; Alex Hossick replaced Seager after he had played another 60 minutes football. Whitstable were playing some very neat football on a surprisingly good playing surface. In  past seasons at this time of the year the pitch has resembled a ploughed field. Not so now; Greenwich must be praised for their hard work in and around the ground which is a vast improvement on years gone by. The lights however raised a few eyebrows; with large dark shadows cast accross the home end six yard box making corners and any high balls into the box a bit of a lottery. 

Town equalised in the 58th minute through Perona, but it was Harrison the nights magician who stole the show with a pass of real quality to open up the home side defence, Perona finishing well. After the goal Whitstable pressed and could have extended their lead but for keeper Holder, his stop at the feet of Constable as he bore down on goal was very brave.

Steve Marshall replaced young Prett up front to maintain the pressure of the home side, whilst at the back Rob Thomas and ?Jackson? aided by Tom Parker and Gary Carter locked up Whitstable?s defence. They allowed the home barely two chances in the second half, one Fewell needed to be brave, he saved well low down at the feet of onrushing two players. The other; from a free kick went straight into Fewell?s grateful arms.

Town could have extended their lead through Marshall, Constable and Carter, Greenwich keeper Holder saving well on each occasion. With time running out both side pressed trying for the winner before the final whistle, with Whitstable having most of the chances. Constable was booked after he palmed the ball past keeper Holder from a Button corner, ala ?hand of god? style, Constable taking the booking in good grace on a night when the ref kept reasonable control of a tough tackling game, but could have kept his cards in his pocket a bit longer, expect Constable?s which was deserved. All in all it was a good game to watch, both sides playing some neat attacking football, Seager saying at the end. ?If you saw Harry?s contribution tonight then you would understand that every team needs a player who can provide that little bit extra, that bit of flair. Tonight Harry showed why he was in the side, we needed that little bit extra to unlock Greenwich, they are a descent side and will surprise a few people this season.?
