Six out of six...Whitstable Town made it six wins out of six to remain top as they defeated Hythe Town 3-1 at the Belmont. The home side netted through Andy Constable in the 14th minute with a well-taken goal after good early pressure by the Oystermen. After the goal they then stood off the visitors allowing them to have a good passage of play when they threatened

Whitstable rode their luck and slowly regained a measure of control with Steve Marshall leading the line with Constable, who both worked tirelessly to keep the pressure on Hythe. In a very evenly balanced game Whitstable extended their lead in the 60th minute with a well-worked goal, which had Whitstable?s manager Marc Seager and his assistant Simon Halsey purring with delight. ?It was very important that we won today, sure the F.A. Cup game will be great for the club but the league is our bread and butter, the three points today keeps us ahead of the pack and to remain unbeaten at this stage of the season is very pleasing. We still have areas of our game to work on,? said Seager, ?at times we do not attack the ball enough but with Josh winning balls in defence and Marcos Perona and Alex Hossick?s working well in midfield we managed to play some descent football, Hossick?s goal was very pleasing.?

At two nil up Whitstable had a good spell and had a couple of chances for Marshall and Constable fell more kindly they may well have extended their lead. Hythe however are always a tough task and after a succession of

Town however rang the changes; Perona leaving the field after he felt a slight twinge after a heavy challenge, was replaced by Darren Budge, Mickey Lane moving infield to fill in for Perona. Up front Stuart King then replaced Constable as Whitstable upped the pace again; netting with another good

?We played some lovely football at times,? said Halsey, ?but as Marc says we need to be more consistent, we play a good passing game but at times need to keep the ball on the deck, when we do we are a good side and if we can iron out one or two silly errors during a game we will be there or there about?s at the end of the season.?
