 Darren Budge & Gary Sayer double up...
Such was Town?s dominance of the first 45 minutes it was
less than five minute before half time when Cray posed their first worthwhile
threat on Kevin Fewell?s goal. Until then trailing by goals from Sam Prett and
Marcos Perona the visitors found it almost impossible to get into Whitstable?s
half of the pitch. Prett scored with the match about 20 minute old after good
work from Darren Budge playing wide on the right, his first attempted cross
beaten away by Cray Valleys defence the ball finding its way out to Budge once
again. This time his perfectly flighted ball drew the keeper who Prett nipped
in front off to head home from 10 yards out. With the home side one up the only
surprise was it had taken them as long as it had to register on the score
sheet, Prett had missed a couple of chance as had young striker Stuart King who
arriving late at the far post to another Budge cross just hit the side netting
instead of the back of the goal. Town upped the tempo with chances from a
couple of corners just going wide before Town went two goals ahead through a
delightful chip into the far corner of the visitors goal by Marcos Perona, the young
Spaniard found the space and time to pick his spot to perfection. With the
clock winding down towards half time Cray mounted their first worthwhile
attack, their nippy winger riding one tackle before stand in skipper Shane
Davies brought him down just inside the area. The spot kick was cleanly
dispatched giving the visitors fresh hope for the second half.

Today we pulled
Mickey Lane inside and made it 3-5-2 as opposed to the first half when Josh
Main at the heart of our defence with Shane and we never never missed a ball. I though Josh did well even when he
was slightly out of position or off balance he got enough on the ball to
unsettle the opposition I was very pleased with him as I was with all the lads.
We sent Andy Constable, Andy Keir along with Steve Marshall and the others up to the
University to play in the reserve game, as I wanted as many of the lads as
possible to get 90 minutes of football in before next week.?
It was evident from the re-start
that Town were finding their way with a change in formation, Shane Davies with
a slight groin strain and Alex Hossick both sat out the majority of the second

bothers Brad & Matt Good who both made their 1st team d?but for WTFC
against Cray Valley PM are yet further proof of Whitstable?s production line of
young talent. The Good brother who are in this years U18?s were part of the
side who won the U16?s cup just over a year ago under the then management of
Ken Gower. ?I said at the time they were first team material? said Gower; ?I am
so pleased for the lads who have the talent in a year or so to push for a
genuine first team spot. They are both strong lads and have been at Town a
number of years its yet another example of the way the club promotes young
players.? 1st team manager Seager saying: ?These are the sort of
games to blood these young lads, there is no pressure on them but I wanted them
to experience playing with the first team, being part of the group and they can
learn a great deal from being involved today. I only gave then ten minute at the end but it was a very impotant step in their football caree and a big day for them both. These young men are the future of
Whitstable Town.?
