Testing time for Town: WTFC 2 Sittingbourne 4

If Whitstable manager Marc Seager?s side needed a testing encounter before their league campaign begins, they certainly found one when they entertained a strong Sittingbourne side that dominated the first 45 minutes. Town went in at the break 4-0 down and a few harsh words were said at half time. ?It?s all about the players listening,? Seager said, ?it?s no good just doing their own thing we asked them to keep to a certain shape and play a certain way, when they don?t do as we say the results are there for all to see. To put it mildly we were woeful for the first half. With the exception of Lee Jones coming through a tough 45 minutes and one or two other bright points there was little that I saw impressed me.?

Seager's assistant, Simon Halsey was equally damming of the first half performance. "Unacceptable; when you consider that we have set ourselves high standards at Whitstable, but this is bound to happen at this time of year, one or two players let themselves down and in the process the whole side suffered.  We had no real shape in the first half, much better in the second when young Stuart King knocked in his two goals, that was pleasing and there was some better performances from  the lads in the second half. It?s a testing time and games like this we can learn from, this experience will stand us in good stead when the real stuff starts.?
