Whitstable Town 3 Dartford FC 3: Towns bright start new campaign: Pre-season match at the Belmont Saturday 22nd
July 2006: Picture Sam Prett scoered Whitstable's second goal: see More for match pictures Whitstable struck first as the match, played at a good tempo
in blistering heat was a reasonable test for both sides. The referee had said
before the kick off there would be no rolling substitutions, which so often mar
these early season forays. Both teams opted for a settled side for the first 45
minutes, with Town favourites Sam Prett and Steve Marshall leading up-front. It
was Marshall; who when driving into the opposition box ghosted past two of three
players before upping his pace and striking a well placed left footed volley in
the 22nd minute who scored the first goal of the 2006-07 season. The ?Darts? responded minutes later after some poor
marking by the home side. However Town were back in front after Prett, from good work by Mickey Lane, then Marshall before he
slotted in Towns second. Again the visitors responded this time after a corner was
not cleared and Towns defence played head tennis instead of row z to clear the
ball, new keeper Kevin Fewell was partially unsighted as Darts scored their
second.
Andy_Marcos_Stuart..after Marcos scored.. All change for the second half, Rob Thomas Fewell,
Marcus Perona and Shane Davies played out the full 90 minutes, Andy Constable
and new striker King both looked lively when they started the 2nd
half. Constable lying on a neat pass for Perona to score Whitstable?s third to
give them back the lead. Constable had a great chance to extend the lead, when
through one-on-one with the ?Darts? keeper who saved well. A ?Fewell howler?
who otherwise had a solid first game, where the young keeper attempted to lay
the ball wide to his defender, his pass only made it as far as the Dartford
striker who will never be presented with an easier chance to leave both side
level at the final whistle. Marcos Perona setting up an attack
Stuart King into the Dartford penalty area...
Marlon nd Andy setting up an attack.. Mickey sitting out the 2nd half ala 'Chelsea' on the traning bikes..
