It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of one of Whitstable's most loyal supporters, Albert Gouldson who passed away on Monday. On behalf of everyone at Whitstable Town I would like to offer sincere condolences to his wife Doris, son Tony and all his family. Albert has been a permanent fixture at the Belmont for many years, often as gateman at the 'Belmont Rd' gate; he always had a tale to tell and a ready smile. Who could forget Albert and 'banjo Sid' who would entertain the travelling supporters whenever there was a coach trip away, with some great singsongs. I grew up with Albert's son Tony, and was privileged to know him for over 40 years. My brother Stan reminded me the other day of the time when Albert had the first 'proper TV in the road, his son Tony used to invite all us kids round to watch. My dad said its 'too many of you round at Albert's, you will have to stop going'. The next day Albert knocked on our door, He asked why us boys did not go round to watch TV, he said he liked to have the kids round... That was Albert. Tony Rouse The funeral takes place at Barham crematorium at 12-30 on Monday; afterwards back at Whitstable Town clubhouse for 1-30/2pm. No flowers by request except family: Donations to The Pilgrims Hospice. |
