No big time Charlies...Peter Budge WTFC reserves
assistant manager: Picture: Peter Budge (on left) with first team manager Simon Kay: ?Although we are disappointed we
lost on Saturday; when you think we had six changes from the week before then
seven changes the week before that its no real surprise that we are lacking a
little consistency at the moment. It might seem a bit strange but in a way we
are victims of having a successful reserves side, now don?t get me wrong, Marc
and Simon along with Mark Lane are doing a fantastic job for this football club
and its the lads who are all benefiting from the way Marc embraces all the
players at the club. If they are good enough they will all get their chance, as
he has proved consistently since he took charge, but like Saturday when the
first team had Andy Martin, Ian Hossick, Sam
Barker and James Duffy in the squad.
That?s not counting the other younger
players who are now established first team players. I believe that it speaks
volumes for the way theses young lads have progressed through the club, some from
a very young age to become part of Marc?s squad. Listen, this is the first time
we have had a manger, certainly in my many year at junior and senior level with
the football club who has had the strength of character to have players,
quality players ones on their way back from injury playing with the reserves.
Partly because each and everyone of the players at the club on first name
terms, Marc has no time for ?big time Charlie?s?, these players are more than
willing to play for the reserves. We are talking quality players, Shane Davies,
Stuart Harrison to name but two, and the reason they are happy to play for the
reserves is they know how highly they are regarded, not only by the management
but by the other players as well. Let me just say this, if you?d have said to
Simon and myself after winning promotion we would be sitting near the top of
the first division within shooting distance of the finish I had said your
crazy. Not because we do not have the quality players in the squad, we do, but
given the injuries to the first team and the way the squad has been depleted
some weeks it?s a credit to the boys what we have done so far. I think Marc and
the others are doing a fantastic job for the club, Simon and I are doing our
bit to bring him success with the first team, if it means we end up not winning
anything with the reserves, its still been a great season.?
