Some tough matches mean the league could be blown wide open this weekend with eight teams still very much in the hunt for the top three positions. Whitstable Town play the first of their four remaining 'six point' fixtures on Saturday away to Maidstone United at Bourne Park, Sittingbourne. Currently fifth in the league Town will be looking to go one better than the draw at the Belmont. The league leaders will be keen to maintain their current run of form, four wins in a row, while the Reds will be wanting to extend their 12 game unbeaten run. For the record the Stones managed a 14 game unbeaten run in the first half of the current campaign which Lordswood ended at Bourne Park in January. Maidstone still have seven matches to play against the top eight contenders, another one of which they play at VCD on this Thursday, that should test their mettle to the very end. After picking Beckenham's lock Marc Seager might just find a chink in the amber defence, as the Stones will surely have to consider rotating their squad due to a heavy league schedule.

ImageTonight (21st) three other sides with aspirations play league matches, Herne Bay are at home against a Tunbridge Wells side who were well beaten at the weekend by Beckenham. The Blues are back on a roll with a better team mentality and will be fresh not having played on Saturday. Dark horses Deal Town travel to Hythe Town for the derby match cancelled at Christmas. Deal won the game at home and will be looking to bounce straight back from their defeat at Greenwich. Beckenham Town will be looking to top the table again by beating Sevenoaks at Greatness Park, a win will put extra pressure on Maidstone's Thursday night fixture.

Back to Saturday, and Beckenham play away at Thamesmead Town. Mead are very much still in contention and carry a four game winning streak without conceding a goal into this match. Should be a different game to the 8-0 walk over for Becks at Eden Park Avenue back in December.

So with four of the favourites playing each other, the remaining wannabes need to collect maximum points from their fixtures. Deal Town are the only ones at home, they play a decent Slade Green side who are much better than recent results have shown. Although the title has gone Green can still make a top six finish while Deal Town are in danger of letting their games in hand run through the hole in their bucket. They have only taken two points from the last three games!

Arguably the hardest test is for Herne Bay who travel to Hythe Town. Hythe have apparently stopped the rot, results against them will prove pivotal during the end of season scramble. They still have to play Beckenham twice, Deal, E&B, Thamesmead, VCD and Whitstable Town amongst their last 12 games. Their results against the Stones in the league were lost one, drew one. Erith & Belvedere drew at Reachfields last week, Bay need better than that.

Probably disappointed with that draw last weekend Erith & Belvedere will be looking to impress at Lordswood. The Lords are by no means a push over having only lost to the top two, so far, at home this season. The Deres are still struggling to score more than once in ninety minutes something their opposition can do freely averaging 2 per game at home.

VCD Athletic have grasped the nettle once more after exiting the Vase, they won at Lordswood in the PDC quarters after three straight losses in the league while they were otherwise distracted. They still have a possible 66 points to shoot for and Fordy will be hoping to reignite their league form with a win at Tunbridge Wells. Culverden has witnessed defeats at the hands of Deal, E&B, Bay, Stones and Mead so far, and now the Vickers need to show their credentials if they have any aspirations. Wells struggle to string wins together which is what they need for a top six finish, 2 has been their best sequence to date and they'll only have six matches left after this one.

A tricky result to predict in the scrap to avoid 16th spot, Sevenoaks Town visit Erith Town because they have to. Erith ran out winners in a single goal thriller at the Oaks ground in September, when all was fresh and the season held great promise. Who said sarcasm was dead? I predict a Dockers victory possibly by a margin bigger than the crowd in attendance.

Greenwich Borough and Sporting Bengal United do not play. (Phew!)

For those who suffer from travel sickness the Whitstable Town Reserves play Cray Wanderers at the Belmont, kick off at three, in KOFL Division One. They can close the gap on Thamesmead's second eleven to one point with a win, although they will have played one more game as Mead do not play until Wednesday.

By the way, Ken's U16 side defend their Kent County FA Youth Cup title at the Belmont on Sunday morning, that's 11.00am on the 25th. This is the semi-final and is against Tonbridge Angels U16s. The lads will be pleased to have all your support at this crucial game.

Come on you Reds!
