Blimey! We've been to east London so many times this season that I'm beginning to talk like Phil Mitchell. Saturday's trip to Erith Town in Group B of the KOFL Premier Division Cup will surely test the mettle of Whitstable Town's travelling support. The corresponding league fixture produced a disappointing nil-nil draw early in October. Since that time the Reds have found winning ways and have climbed up ten places in the league, while the Dockers are planted at the foot of the table. Qualification for the quarter finals has already been settled in this group so it's hard to see how the fixture might attract a large gate, however, the result will affect the draw as the group winners will receive home advantage, and anyway, our away supporters are a determined bunch, gaining a great reputation and much respect around the Kent League. See you all there.... or we'll send the boys 'round!

The other group B qualifiers host Greenwich Borough who travel in the other direction along the A2 to Lordswood. The Lords are only one point behind Town at the top of the table with an inferior goal difference by 6, these are the final two matches in the group.

Elsewhere, it's good luck and best wishes to Hythe Town and VCD this weekend who are in action in the FA Vase. Hythe are at home to Wessex League leaders Winchester City and the Vickers take on Broxbourne Borough from the Spartan Premier, who dismissed Maidstone in the previous round. It would be great for Kent League football if one or both could manage to get through to the last sixteen. Good luck both, Kentish men and men of Kent!

Back to the Premier Division Cup and VCD's involvement in the Vase means their top of group C meeting with Maidstone will be played on Tuesday the 24th. The Stones have no game this weekend but do play tomorrow night (Weds. 18th) in the same competition, at home against Deal Town. Deal are still looking for their first point in the Premier Division Cup, if they are unlucky at Bourne Road they will have one more chance to save face when entertaining Tunbridge Wells on Saturday afternoon. VCD and Maidstone have already qualified for the quarters in this group.

Group D plays to a conclusion this week, Thamesmead have qualified and host Sevenoaks in their final game. The Oaks are another side still on a duck in this competition, hard to see how that could change at the last chance saloon. Three points for Mead would assure them top spot. The other fixture will decide whether Beckenham Town or Slade Green go into the hat with them. Currently two points ahead of Green and with the home advantage Becks ought to carry the day.

In group A, Herne Bay play their last qualifier at home against Sporting Bengal. The teams drew 2-2 in their league meeting in London, Bay need only a point to secure a quarter final berth. Hythe have to play two more, the Bengalis on Wednesday the 25th and what could be a decider against Erith & Belvedere on Tuesday the 31st January. Although already out of the running, Sporting Bengal clearly have a big hand in the outcome of this group, perm any two from the other three.

Followers of Whitstable Town Reserves have two home cup fixtures to relish. Tonight (Tuesday 17th) they pit their wits against Deal Town in the Floodlight competition and at the weekend a second round replay against Lordswood Reserves in the KOFL Division One/Two Cup.

Right I'm off to the caff for a cuppa tea, see you in the Queen Vic later.

Come on you Reds!

Peter Albin. 17th January
