ImageCHRISTMAS AND THE BAY GET 'DOUBLE BUBBLE' ?.
Almost every team in the league can look forward to some derby fixtures over the holiday period. On the north Kent coast Whitstable Town travel one stop down the line to Herne Bay on the 27th December for KOF League match number 15 out of 30, and the Blues travel in the opposite direction on January the 2nd for the reciprocal fixture at the Belmont Road Ground. Without a doubt the league table will look very different after the holiday period as Beckenham, Erith, Slade Green and Sporting Bengal will not so much as kick a ball this Christmas, while all the others are engaged in intriguing derbies.
The Reds are currently 4 points and 4 places ahead of Bay in the table and would dearly like to apply further pressure on the top two teams by grabbing maximum points. Although Herne Bay are rebuilding their team they will not be a pushover, after two good wins, Hythe in the cup and Tunbridge Wells in the league, Andy Keir will need to maintain good discipline at the back to contain them while our in form strike force do the business up front.

Other 'Double Derbies' on the same two dates?

Hythe Town vs Deal Town down on the Channel coast. First leg at Reachfields, Deal will be seeking their fifth and sixth wins 'on the bounce' and converting some of their games in hand into solid points. Hythe lost at the Belmont last weekend and at Winch's Field last Tuesday in the cup and will be keen to stop the rot while the opposition want to be in contention at the top.

Lordswood entertain Maidstone United on the 27th in what could be regarded as a local game as their 'home' grounds less than 10 miles apart. Lordswood are definitely tough cookies to crack at home and might take some points off the Stones before the return at Bourne Park where I feel the crowd will carry the day for United.

Down in the weald Tunbridge Wells travel to Sevenoaks for their first game, an 11 o'clock fixture for anyone interested in visiting two grounds on one match day. Both sides are hungry for the points, Wells having lost 8 and the Oaks 11 in the first half of the season. I suspect home advantage will count in both and they will probably share the points, 1 or 3 each?

Another early kick off on the 27th is at midday at Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead Town against Erith & Belvedere. Very important fixtures these for Whitstable Town, as both sides have recently been overhauled in the table and will be busting to regain the advantage they have given away. Both sides have had a wobble of late and have seen some dissension in their ranks so two close and scrappy games are predicted.

Finally, in the homliest matches of the season VCD play Greenwich Borough and vice versa at Harrow Meadow. Will both sides playing at home result in their biggest gates of the season? Probably not, however, VCD are picking up a good following in the Vase and may be able to translate some of that to their league campaign. I suspect six points will be VCDs as the groundshare seems to be working out well for them, sending them back to the top of the mid-table pack.

Wherever you decide to watch your football I wish you a Merry Christmas and...

Come on you Reds!
