Town were out to avenge last weeks result against the Gate. Ian Hossick
(back) and Nick Lingham (rested) were amongst substitutes with Steve
Baines, Joe Smith, James Duffy, Bertie Braidwood, Darren Budge, Anthony
Whittaker and Gary Roberts coming into the starting line up. Defensive
phases of play were excellently coached at training by the injured Will
'Geordie' Lee!!!
 
Town look rarely troubled defensively, with a solid performance from
front to back, with Steve Baines and Joe Smith adopting unfamiliar roles
at full back but performing excellently. Margate had a header bounce off
the cross bar mid way through the 1st  half but the boys in red bossed
the game before and after. Gary Roberts, making his debut, caused havoc
in the final 3rd and could and possibly should have hit the target from
18 yards out.
 
Ian, Pete Budge and Colin Budge asked the lads to not settle into a
comfort zone and side started the 2nd period positively. Darren Budge
slid a pass to skipper Barry Robinson who side footed a loft drive into
the top corner from 25 yards out (early contender for goal of the
season) after 50 minutes.
 
Credit must be give to the 11 players as they never rested on that lead,
always on the front foot and on 65 minutes D Budge slotted a fine
through ball to Gary Roberts, who was maimed in the penalty area. Gary
picked himself up to stroke the resultant penalty into the bottom left
corner.
 
Margate rallied but Town's centre halves Sam Rigden and James Dufffy
dealt with everything comfortably. Dean Grant (U18) came on for
Braidwood with 8 minutes to play and impressed on his senior debut.
 
With Thamesmead losing to Maidstone the title race is wide open again.
With performances like this it'll be very difficult to stop Town.
